2014 BMW M235i spied testing on the Nurburgring

The successor to the E82 BMW 1 Series Coupe, now under the BMW 2 Series badge, will come to market in Spring 2014. The official debut will take place this year after the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and first drives are scheduled early next year.
The top of the line model, BMW M235i, is built with the U.S. market in mind and at least for now, it will serve as the successor of the BMW 1M. The 2 Series family will compete against the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class.

Technically the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible are closely related to the current generation F20/F21 1 Series, which implies the use of a rear-wheel drive architecture and in some cases, an all-wheel drive system.
The M235i, in RWD and xDrive variants, will most likely use the same engine as the M135i, a 3.0 liter TwinPower turbocharged six-cylinder producing 320 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque (332 lb-ft) at 1,300 rpm. Redline is set at 7000 rpm.
With the optional limited-slip differential, the BMW M235i is said to be faster on Nurburgring than even the 1M Coupe.
