Mazda6 is the
most attractive model in the “Mid and Full-Size” category - KODO Design impresses readers in 15
European countries - Mazda’s second
design award in a row after the Mazda CX-5 - Votes from AUTO BILD readers made a clear statement – the car in
the “Mid and Full-Sized” category
with the most attractive design is the all-new Mazda6. Around 200,000 readers
of AUTO BILD magazines in 15 countries chose which car in Europe looked the
best in different segments. With 23.1 percent of all votes, the Mazda6 left the
Maserati Quattroporte (19.1 percent) and the Mercedes E-Class (13.1 percent)
behind to win the AUTO BILD Design Award 2013.
The Japanese carmaker has now taken home victory in Europe
for the second time in a row with one of its vehicles, as last year the Mazda
CX-5 won in the “SUV, Van and All-Wheel” category too. Like the Mazda6, this
vehicle was created using the new “KODO – Soul of Motion” design language that
combines movement with the beauty and power of nature. That this design is
popular with just about everyone who sees it was demonstrated when it won the
prestigious international red dot design award 2013.
KODO in its purest
form
The design of the new Mazda6 is KODO in its purest form. Both
the sedan and the wagon combine ease of movement with functionality. Powerful
body lines cause different color effects depending on how the light hits the
car – especially when the Mazda6 is in the new body color Soul Red Metallic.
The car’s silhouette is characterized by a passenger compartment set far back
and prominent wheel wells rising over large tyres of up to 19 inches. The front
of the car has the new Mazda grille and dynamic daytime running light elements
that are available using LEDs for the first time. At the back of the car the
wing-type design of the rear lights repeats the design of the headlights. A
ridge continues the chrome strip here outward into the character lines of the
side panels making for a dynamic overall rear end design.
Harmony as main
design motif – outstanding fuel consumption is the result
The main design motif of the new Mazda6 is harmony – between
exterior and interior design, between the dynamic form of the body and its
roomy interior, between strong power development and outstanding efficiency. As
the latest step in the evolution of Mazda’s Sustainable Zoom-Zoom program for
developing environmentally-friendly vehicles, the Mazda6 achieves best values
for fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its innovative SKYACTIV-Technologies.
Fuel consumption for the 4.87 meter long Mazda6 sedan – with the 110 kW/150 PS,
2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D diesel engine* with the i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration
system – is just 3.9 liters per 100 km (combined), which results in CO2
emissions of 104 g/km, one of the best in its segment. This extremely
low-compression-ratio diesel engine (of just 14:1) is available in a 129 kW/175
PS version as well.
A premiere for the
Mazda6 is the 2.5-litre SKYACTIV-G direct-injection petrol engine producing
141 kW/192 PS*. It also comes in a high-compression 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G petrol
in two derivatives with 107 kW/145 PS and 121 kW/165 PS. All these petrol
engines combine smooth power development with amazingly low fuel consumption.
For instance, the 2.0-litre 107kW/145 PS version needs just 5.5 liters per 100
km (combined) and produces CO2 emissions of 129 g/km.
