Volvo Car Group announces February retail sales: Volvo Cars’ global sales up 4.6 per cent – eight consecutive months of growth

 
* Global sales of 29,948 cars, up 4.6 per cent versus February last year * Positive developments in Europe, China and overseas * New product launches at the Geneva Motor Show to further drive growth


 
Global sales at Volvo Cars increased 4.6 per cent in February compared to the same month last year, driven by sturdy growth in China, a positive performance in Germany, the Netherlands and Japan and continued strength in Sweden. Sales have now increased for eight consecutive months.
China was Volvo Cars’ largest market in February with 4,433 retail sold cars, up 12.4 per cent versus the same month last year. The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model. The all-new Volvo S60L – an extended version of the S60 sedan – has been very well received among consumers and this model captured second place in February, just ahead of the V40 model.
 
Volvo Cars has had a strong start of the year in Sweden, with four models on the top-ten list of best -selling cars. For February, retail sales were up 8.6 per cent to 4,148 cars, boosted by the “Made by Sweden” campaign. Sales of the XC carlines have grown by more than 50 per cent since the advertising campaign starring Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the footballer, started running. 

In Europe, there has been a positive sales trend in several key markets, with Germany growing by 13.3 per cent and the Netherlands by 20 per cent in February. Looking to overseas markets, Japan continues to be an important market for Volvo Cars, being the sixth biggest market in February with a sales increase of 66.5 per cent for the first two months.

The United States reported retail sales of 3,991 cars, down 18 per cent versus February 2013, explained by short-term effects boosting sales last year. The Volvo V60 has now reached US showrooms and the interest from retailers and consumers has led to a strong orderbook. The Volvo S60 was the best-selling model for the month.

“Volvo Cars is on track for another year of global growth, and February marked the eighth consecutive month of increasing sales”, says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “At the 2014 Geneva Auto Show we will announce some of the new exciting products that will strengthen our brand and customer offer this year and I am really looking forward to the response from consumers." 
The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in February with 8,672 sold cars (2013: 7,402), followed by the Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country for which deliveries reached a total of 6,681 cars (6,016). The third best-selling model was the Volvo V60 with 4,445 cars (3,301). Sales figures by model can be found in the Sales Volume section of the Global Newsroom.
